Where to Go
Beltzville Lake
Beltzville is five miles east of Lehighton,
just off US 209. From the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike,
take Exit 74 and follow the signs to the park.
Delaware River
There are numerous access points along
the 60-mile length of Delaware Canal State Park. The park follows the
Delaware River from Easton to Bristol, paralleled by Pennsylvania Routes
611 and 32.
Jordan Creek
Take Route 33 South to Route
22 West. Take Route 22 West to Route 145 South (7th St.). Make a left
at the second stop light (Dunkin’ Donuts across the street).
Upper Lehigh
This section of the river is
also nicknamed the “Gorge,” and has class II – III whitewater
separated by sections of flat water. Paddling requires proper
skill, and a novice should be accompanied by an experienced paddler.
This is a great river to become familiar with basic whitewater technique.
Lower Lehigh
Although the headwaters are
tough paddling, anything downstream of Lehighton is—with care and
respect for water level—a relaxing ride. The river runs late into
the season for recreational boaters, with only an occasional dam to
portage.
Mauch Chunk Lake
Take I-476 N to Exit 74 (Mahoning
Valley). Follow Rt. 209 S to Lehighton. Take Rt. 209 S across bridge
and turn right, following 209 to Jim Thorpe. Turn left at stoplight
in Jim Thorpe's business district and proceed approximately 4 miles.
The entrance to the lake is on the left.
Lake Nockamixon
Nockamixon State Park is along PA
563, just off of PA 313, five miles east of Quakertown and nine miles
west of Doylestown.
Tohickon Creek at Ralph
Stover State Park
Ralph Stover State Park is two miles
north of Point Pleasant on State Park Road and Stump Road, in eastern
Bucks County. This page last updated 2/12/08 04:08 PM
